A seventy-thousand word German insurance policy – required in UK English within one week. That was the recent demand from a corporate legal client. What’s more, the original document had been scanned in and the original wasn’t available.
So first, one of our documentation experts used OCR to turn the document into editable copy. Then the German was checked for spelling and hyphenation errors, layout and pagination to make sure that it was a valid source document.
A team of four professional German/English linguists was quickly assembled with one designated as the terminologist. Our translation manager together with the terminologist drew up a list of key insurance/legal terms, specific to the client, which were then exported into a “termbase” – an agreed glossary available to all the linguists. The four linguists worked simultaneously via the cloud using the shared termbase and translation memory to produce sections of the document, which were then subject to detailed QA before downloading.
The final documents went back to our documentation specialist for assembly, and the translation manager for a final consistency check, with final delivery back to the client being well within the seven day deadline.
Professionalism allied to technology produced the right result – and the lawyer was happy!
